What's the hub-bub, bub?
Firstly, Astronauts discover 'new planet'.

  • The home renovations are almost complete. Just one more bathroom to go, plus some painting. My family was painting various things yesterday as I was cleaning parts of my room. I decided to assemble my IKEA desk and shelf last night because I'm probably going to be busy with other renovations and work for the rest of the week. Assembling was pretty easy, except for this one part, which I SURPRISE! called my brother over to my room to help me with. I like that he knows about almost everything I don't know about, and vice-versa.

  • I'm currently registered as a 'special' student, so I won't be able to register until a week after the rest of the second year students (August 17). I was already worried about the second years being one of the last groups to register, and now I'm actually in the last group to register. I just hope I can get a few of the courses I wanted. Hopefully my change-of-major form gets processed soon so that I can register a bit earlier. I've been sending emails to Carleton about it and haven't received any useful information yet. I hate waiting for things to process. Also, I definitely won't be getting any OSAP money. I called Susan (from the Awards Office), and she told me that I wouldn't be able to get anything because of my parents income. It doesn't matter that they aren't helping out with any tuition costs. Susan was really nice, so I got over it quickly. Anyway, my last resort is getting a student line of credit, which seems alright for now. I am definitely the 'experiment' of my family (as most eldest children are). My dad gave my sisters a big lecture about how they need to save money for university, especially now. I'll just re-apply for OSAP next year.

  • Work is going pretty well. On my first day (last Wednesday), we had this meeting about something. I had no clue what everyone was talking about. I took relief in the fact that there are only 6 people in my group (the Pollution Data Branch), so it wasn't too intimidating. I also had to talk about myself (being new and all), which was horrible but probably necessary. My work area (cubicle) is private, which I like, and my team is helpful and close to my area too. The only downfall about the job would be that it's in Gatineau, but the money is great and I don't have too much work to do. My parents have been driving me there for the past few days. Tomorrow I start taking the bus. It'll be like a journey.

  • My trip to Toronto wasn't too eventful, but I had some of the best food. Ever. I guess I just love the variety of things you can get there. My parents know EVERYONE. There isn't one place we went to where someone didn't acknowledge my parents. People were always looking at me too. Everyone always wants to know about the oldest kid. Everyone thinks you're a failure if you don't have a great job, and especially if you don't go to school for a great career. As some people may know, most of my cousins are studying to be doctors. I've learned to block out the conversations revolving around my cousins versus me.

  • My laptop is currently being fixed. I realized that I COULD live without it, but I don't think I'd want to. It should be ready for me sometime this week. Apparently it was infested with viruses (is that the plural?). I should really get my virus program updated. 2004 is too old in computer-land. I'm hoping that EVERYTHING (except the viruses, of course) is backed-up before they re-install Windows. Otherwise I'll be very stoic for a long time. It'd be too depressing to loose all those illegal programs, videos, and music I have contained within my files.
